I am Eva Kay- a homeschooled highschooler who is here to teach teenagers skills that will make them more independent and self sufficient.

We are living in a time period where at the click of a button, we can purchase anything and wake up to a package at the doorstep.

But is it really helping us become more independent?

My blog is here to teach you how to become more self reliant; to grow organic gardens, make food from scratch, create your own cosmetics, paint beautiful pictures that inspire and take risks and explore the wondrous outdoors.

About me

As I mentioned before, I am homeschooled. Homeschooling gives me the ability to take on big projects- like creating a permaculture food forest in my backyard, or having the time to paint to my heart’s desire.  Last year, I made and donated more than $1,000 by winning multiple national art contests.  This year, I joined a few local art galleries and began selling my watercolor landscapes. My Mom is teaching me how to invest and I have started my first brokerage account.  My family and I just moved further away from the city into the countryside of northern Virginia. We now have three and a half acres of land that I find immense joy in cultivating and stewarding.

Gardening is only one of the skills I find to be a lot of fun. I learned how to knit at a young age (by an elderly Norwegian lady on youtube) and have been doing it ever since. Whenever I have a spare moment I am on the hunt for new useful crafts and projects.

Nature and the outdoors is something really important to my family. We love to explore and travel the world (on a budget). This is another reason why we chose to home educate and not be tied to strict school schedules.  I have been to almost 30 countries and 25 US national parks. We love traveling outside of the cities to see how different cultures live. Much of my artwork is inspired by our hiking and exploration.  With travel, we’ve been through lots of ups and downs, faced many unglamorous circumstances and learned to be more flexible.  I am always up for an adventure.

I hope you follow along on my journey of recovering many timeless skills!
